Episode 17

Patricia Deyton is an experienced educator in the areas of nonprofit management, general management, gender and leadership, negotiations, and change management. As a professor at the School of Business at Simmons University, she also served as the associate dean of the School of Management and the program director for the MBA and the Healthcare MBA programs. She was the director of the Center for Gender in Organizations for 12 years, the internationally recognized research center at Simmons addressing gender, diversity, and organizational effectiveness.

We had the opportunity to speak with Professor Deyton to learn more about the research she has done on women in leadership and her work at the Center for Gender in Organizations. Professor Deyton has done two long-range research projects in the last year – one is a deep-dive on the instances of non-profit boards that achieve gender parity and how they achieve that, and the other is a study on the effectiveness and perceived gender “voice” of national leaders during the current Covid-19 crisis. Both projects have seen significant contributions made to them by Harvard Extension School Faculty Aide students.
